Linkedin Blog

Linkedin is a business and employment-focused social media platform that has over 900m active members from around the world, making it largest professional network on the internet. Linkedin is a great way for us to showcase what we do as a business and as professional individuals.

If you are new to the platform or have a profile but don’t actively use it, we have pulled together some top tips to get you started.

Linkedin 5 Point Healthcheck

This 5 point checklist is a great way to make a start on building your professional profile on the platform;

  1. Do you have a professional profile photo?
  2. Is your title / role / company correct?
  3. Do you have a strong headline?
  4. Is your professional summary up to date?
  5. Have you added all of your skills?

Who to follow?

A good start is to follow the various McGoff Group companies; McGoff Construction, MGFS, Panacea, New Care, Minerva Place, Back to the Garden Childcare and Downtown Asset Management. You can then expand to other businesses that you work with; consider suppliers, consultants, architects, funders and subcontractors.

Industry specific platforms such as Place North West, Insider and Care Industry UK are great to follow to keep up to date on the latest news and trends.

After following all of the relevant businesses you can start to ‘connect’ with people. Start with your colleagues and then employees from other businesses that you engage with through work. You will then see the content that they share which may be of interest to you too.

Finally you can search for pages that interest you specifically such as charities, activities, groups and local businesses.

What content to share?

Once you are following the companies you have identified above you will start to see their content appearing on your Linkedin feed (homepage). If you see a post you like you can click ‘repost’ and then that content will appear on your connections feed. You can also ‘like’ or ‘comment’ on posts that you see and you can also ‘tag’ a connection or a business who you think may be interested in seeing the post.

Branding

You can align the branding of your profile with the business that you work for by utilising professional photos, corporate hashtags and approved content from the business page. For example you can copy content from the ‘about’ section of the business page into your ‘experience’ section of your current role. Add hashtags at the end of your posts such as #buildingforgenerations for MCL or #unbreakable for McGoff Group. Always try to use a professional headshot for your profile photo where possible and a good background photo could be a professional photo of a project that you have worked on for example.

There are many features to Linkedin and we have only covered the very basics above, with more features continually coming online as the platform continues to grow.
