McGoff and Byrne have won a £1.8 million contract to build SEA LIFE Manchester at The Trafford Centre.
The first SEA LIFE aquarium to be built in England in 15 years, the attraction will include ocean caves, the open sea, rock pools and beach areas.
McGoff & Byrne will refurbish and fit out an existing retail space in Barton Square, introducing specifically designed concrete structures for the ocean tank and life support systems tank and concrete bases for the ray tank.
The principal contractor will also create an impressive new entrance to the unit and a themed retail space.
McGoff & Byrne will also build behind the scenes at the attraction, incorporating a research laboratory and animal health care centre. Construction has commenced with build scheduled for completion in Spring. SEA LIFE Manchester will open to the public in June.
James McGoff, managing director at McGoff & Byrne, comments: “We are proud of our appointment to deliver the first Sea Life attraction in England in more than 15 years. The creation of the aquarium is a complex project, unlike anything we have ever built before, but we are thrilled to be part of such a unique scheme.
“Construction is going well and we are confident that the facility, once complete, will be a world class atmospheric, interactive and mesmerising sea life discovery. A much welcomed addition to Manchester’s leisure and educational offering.”
