This project comprised the extensive development of a new doctor’s surgery, pharmacy and apartments, on part of a former school site. The building is formed by 2 discreet elements, the main 2 storey surgery block and a 4 storey corner block containing the pharmacy and 7 apartments.
The new practice now offers, spacious GP consulting rooms, an “In House” Lloyds Pharmacy, car parking for around 40 vehicles, treatment rooms, multi purpose minor surgery rooms, counselling/small interview room and a private discussion room off the main reception area. In addition there are large administration facilities, a training room, meeting room for up to 16 people, a new staff room with fully equipped kitchen. The building also benefits from a modern energy efficient heating system.
McGoff Construction were appointed following a fast track negotiation process to build this steel framed 156 place nursery for children aged 0-5 years. This building was designed and built with sustainability in mind. The site was previously contaminated and subsequently remediated utilising McGoff Construction expertise. The structure was future proofed during design stage by creating open plan structural zones that could be converted into offices should a change of use be required in subsequent years. Elements of the project are also made from recycled material such as the soft play material utilised within the roof mounted play area. Furthermore our Kids Allowed has been awarded carbon neutral status.
This project involved conversion of the under-utilised lower ground floor to the Grade II listed Holy Trinity church in Anfield. The scheme included the removal of a raised mound of earth that surrounded the church and creation of a large Community Centre, whilst allowing the church to share and operate a separate entrance to benefit of local people and interest groups. The project was successfully completed on time and within budget, culminating with the facility opening to the public in April 2009.
Trafford MBC were determined that the new school should be as energy efficient and environmentally friendly as the capital budget would allow, and this became a major driver in the environmental services design and solution. The services consultant, worked very closely from the onset with the Architect, advising on building form, shape and orientation. The classrooms all face south, thus maximizing the use of daylight and free heating by the planned use of passive solar gain. Sophisticated lighting controls ensure that the lighting is dimmed when sufficient natural daylight is present, and are switched off when the rooms are vacated. Two large solar collectors sit on the south facing roof to make full use of the suns energy throughout the year.
Following a rigorous 2 stage tender and interview process, McGoff Construction emerged as the preferred bidder and more importantly the builder which the entire team wanted to work with, the Architect and the Head-teacher fronted the interview panel. Through early collaboration with the whole Integrated Supply Team (IST), the project went through detailed design and value engineering. The Architects vision was discussed at a series of meetings with the IST and budgets were set for each of the project elements, as the project had funding restraints. All costs were reviewed and subsequently the project was delivered on time and to budget, resulting in maximum benefit for the project stake-holders, particularly the children.
